The Torah teaches: ayn kemach, ayn Torah — without bread, there is no Torah. Our learning, as individuals and as a community, depends on generous financial support. Families in our community have a whole range of financial circumstances, and no one will be turned away because of financial concerns — please discuss any particular circumstances with our Senior Synagogue Administrator, who will make sure that your full participation is within reach.
- Membership Requirement
Families need to be members in good standing of Congregation Kehillath Israel before a date can be reserved and remain members through the end of the fiscal year of the simcha.
- Bar/Bat Mitzvah Fee
A fee of $613 must be paid in full or a payment plan established to secure a date for your simcha. This fee is in addition to other costs associated with bar/bat mitzvah preparation and celebration and helps to cover some of the additional costs to the shul associated with a simcha, including program development and staff time.
- Congregational Kiddush
It is the KI custom for Bar/Bat Mitzvah families to sponsor the congregational kiddush on the shabbat morning nearest their simcha. Please click here for more information on kiddush sponsorship.
- Individual Tutoring
Our B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator works with each family to make sure that all students have a tutor to prepare for their b’nai mitzvah. Tutors work with students on learning Torah reading, Haftarah, writing d’vrei torah, and leading parts of the service. Every bar and bat mitzvah looks different and we want to make sure that you find the right tutor to fit your needs! Tutors are paid privately by each family. The avergae cost for b’nai mitzvah tutors is between $65-85/hour.
