Meshorerim at Kehillath Israel

Rooted in the centuries-old Jewish tradition of the meshorerim—singers who supported communal prayer—our Adult Meshorerim brings voices together to enrich the worship experience for our entire congregation.

Adult Meshorerim

Our Adult Meshorerim is a community of singers who help shape the spiritual sound of our congregation. Standing together around the shtender, we support the Hazzan and prayer leaders, give strength and confidence to communal worship, and help lead the congregation in the melodies that define our shared prayer experience. Rather than performing for the community, we sing with the community. The repertoire centers on the congregational melodies of Shabbat and the High Holidays, helping the kahal sing with confidence, familiarity, and joy. Whether adding warmth to a quiet prayer, power to a familiar refrain, or inspiration to a sacred moment, the Meshorerim strive to elevate our prayer spaces and create worship that is beautiful, participatory, and spiritually alive. Singers of all experience levels are welcome. If you enjoy singing, love Jewish prayer, and want to help deepen our community’s worship, we’d love to have you join us for this year’s High Holidays.

Youth Meshorerim

Youth Meshorerim is an exciting musical opportunity for kids on campus, preferably between the ages of 8-12. Debuting this past High Holidays 5786, the Youth Meshorerim led a number of prayers during key moments across Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah. Youth Meshorerim also makes special appearances at other prominent Holiday gatherings, including Hanukkah, Purim, Lag Ba’omer, and the Annual Gathering. The musical repertoire spans new melodies across tefillah, niggunim (wordless melody), contemporary Israeli music, and other selections composed by Hazzan Ariel Wyner. No prior ensemble experience is necessary – just a love for singing, connection, and being in Jewish spaces!
