Open Positions

Director of Family Engagement

KI seeks a dynamic and innovative full-time Director of Family Engagement (DFE) who will manage a warm and friendly, highly functioning, and well-respected religious school, family activities, Bnei Mitzvah experience, Shabbat programming, and teen event calendar. This role reports to the VP for Youth Education and the Executive Director.

The DFE will be responsible for maintaining and growing a strong, vibrant culture of family engagement programming within the KI community, by managing (directly and with support from a team of staff):

  • KI’s B’nei mitzvah experience, together with an enriching and rewarding B’nei Mitzvah Seminar
  • KI’s three weekly Shabbat youth worship programs
  • KI’s family programming around chagim and the High Holidays
  • KI’s vibrant and growing religious school

The DFE supervises religious school, youth, and family programming staff of part-time Jewish educators and thought leaders. The DFE collaborates with KI’s Executive Director, VP for Youth Education, education-related committees, and others to hire for positions when necessary, to ensure that periodic performance reviews are conducted,and to encourage and facilitate participation in relevant professional development opportunities.

The DFE engages with lay leadership in the Education realm, by working collaboratively with the VP for Family Engagement, and participating regularly in KI Board Meetings and meetings of the Religious School andYouth Education Committees.
The DFE facilitates the initiation and continuation of additional youth programming (ie, in addition to education and worship programs) for various age groups, including teen programming.

The DFE collaborates with a variety of stakeholders, including KI’s Clergy, Board of Trustees, the Director of Early Childhood Education, staff colleagues, leaders of 384 Harvard Street Campus partner organizations, community members, and committees. S/he participates regularly in weekly KI Senior Staff meetings.

The DFE looks outward, seeking to create meaningful partnership with campus partners and other organizations within the greater Brookline/Boston Jewish community. KI strives to maintain a cross-functional team and all members work collaboratively as needs arise.
The successful candidate will possess:

  • Significant teaching experience and a background in and knowledge of Judaism and Jewish practice
  • Classroom management skills and experience with accommodating a variety of learning styles
  • Previous leadership experience in a school or camp educational environment
  • Supervisory/management experience
  • Strong communication, problem- solving, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain a yearly calendar of events, and produce regular electronic and other forms of communications with stakeholders
  • Ability to understand, develop, and operate within departmental budgets
  • The ability to foster warm and positive relationships with children, teens, and parents

Assistant Director of Youth Education

KI is seeking an enthusiastic, engaged, and passionate Assistant Director of Youth Education. This person will be responsible for managing administrative tasks for the  Religious School, leading Shabbat morning youth services, facilitating teen programming, communicating with teens and families, and assisting with other administrative tasks within the Youth Department. 

This person should be able to provide creative programming and should be able to communicate effectively.  

 Ideal candidates have:

  • The organizational skills required to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Some experience with Jewish leadership and education through youth groups, camps, and/ or other youth educational programs
  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • A background in and knowledge of Judaism and Jewish practice
  • Strong communication, problem- solving, and interpersonal skills 
  • The ability to foster warm and positive relationships with children, teens, and parents 

Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with KI’s Director of Family Engagement as well as parent leaders to discern and address the needs of KI families
  • Communicating regularly with parents 
  • Serving as the BBYO Programming Liaison: Working with teens to create a variety of fun and compelling programs over the academic year (approximately one event per month), doing outreach to engage teens in the community, fostering a sense of community and engagement within the group, and encouraging attendance at BBYO regional events; attending said events when applicable.
  • Be at KI 1-2 Shabbat mornings per month and Holidays as needed, which may include greeting families, leading youth services, and setting and cleaning up 
  • Attending occasional Saturday morning Bar/Bat Mitzvahs at synagogue 
  • Submitting monthly reports to the Education Committee and attending monthly committee meetings when possible
  • Occasional teaching on an as needed basis, such as for the Religious School, teen programming, the Bnai Mitzvah Seminar, and other educational activities
  • Providing administrative support to the DFE by helping organize and publicize youth programs and set up and shop for in-person programs.
  • Assisting the DFE with administrative tasks related to the running of KI Religious School  and other youth programs

Hours: approximately 30 hours/week, flexibility

Salary: $30,000- 40,000

Jewish Educator – Nitzanim

KI is seeking a Jewish Educator to lead Shabbat youth services/programming on Saturday mornings (10:30-12) for the 2021-2022 school year. We are seeking a service leader for children ages 4 & Under. Responsibilities will include planning and leading the group in activities, prayers, song, and movement. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and engaging, with experience in Jewish education and a nurturing approach to young children.

Although we are transitioning out of a year of Zoom services, and may continue to offer this occasionally, our goal is to primarily have this as in-person program. Jewish Educator – Minyan Atid

KI is seeking a Jewish Educator to lead Shabbat youth services/programming on Saturday mornings (10:30-12)  for the 2021-2022 school year. We are seeking a service leader for children ages 8-11, grades 2-5. Responsibilities will include planning and leading the group in activities, prayers, song, and movement. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and engaging, with experience in Jewish education. Although we are transitioning out of a year of Zoom services, and may continue to offer this occasionally, our goal is to primarily have this as an in-person program. KI Religious School Teacher

KI is seeking a 6th-7th Grade religious school teacher to teach Judaics and Hebrew language in the Kehillath Israel Religious School (KIRS). Generally, Judaics topics include weekly parsha, Jewish history, Jewish holidays, and prayer. More specifically, this year it will include an in depth study of the Holocaust and the Amidah service, as well as an introduction to the canon of Jewish text.

As we are a Conservative synagogue, teachers must be comfortable teaching traditional prayer liturgy. Class is in session from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Thursdays throughout the school year. This will include snack time, tefillah as a kehillah (community), and Zman Kehillah, time as a community to participate in experiential education. If interested, teacher can work with the Director of Family Engagement to plan and implement some of these community time lessons for additional compensation. Teachers will be expected to plan their own lessons outside of school hours and participate in a monthly staff meeting.
