Melave Malka in the Sukkah
Saturday, October 11 | 7:00PM

Join us for music in the Kehillath Israel Sukkah! Jacob’s Ladder will collaborate with Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer, Hebrew College’s Rosh Tefilah and Artist-in-Residence, for a soul-stirring, lively and heartwarming Melave Malka concert.

Melave Malka, or “Escorting the Queen,” is a beautiful tradition of saying a bittersweet farewell to Shabbat. The evening will feature a range of musical pieces from Jessica’s background, ranging in Mizrahi and Ashkenazi traditions and liturgy. Prepare yourself for an immersive, participatory, and festive Sukkot gathering right on the front lawn of Harvard Street!

Shabbat Neshama
November 7, January 2, February 13, March 13, April 24, June 12

Six times a year, the entire 384 Harvard Street campus will gather for Shabbat Neshama, a new initiative focused on song, connecting to our roots, and heartfelt prayer across all generations. The name, meaning “Shabbat of the Soul,” comes from the Talmudic tradition of neshama yeiteira, which teaches that we gain a second, elevated soul when we welcome Shabbat. Join us for a heightened, soulful Shabbat experience, coming together in song and prayer with full body and spirit.

5:15PM: Kid-friendly appetizers & small bites
6:00PM: Kabbalat Shabbat followed by community Kiddush and dinner

At Shabbat Neshama, the heartbeat of the service will be the nigun, a wordless melody sung in-the-round. Everyone is invited to sing along, regardless of their Hebrew background. The closer you get to the center, the more you will feel the energy! If you’d like to learn the melodies beforehand, join our Shabbat Neshama Meshorerim (Singers) rehearsals on the Thursday night before each.
