A note from Jonathan Farbman and Heshie Liebowitz
Dear Friends,
The Coronavirus pandemic has made it unsafe to enjoy a central aspect of Judaism: celebrating God amongst community members with music, namely with call and response prayers. Thus, we propose a project in which KI congregation members have the opportunity to experience this communal bond in a COVID-safe way, made possible by modern technology.
The project’s main goal is to create a virtual rendition of some sort of song or prayer we typically do in Shul to reinforce bonds within our Jewish community with active engagement. The idea for this project came out of a “Capstone project” I did for a virtual fellowship curated by the Hartman Institute I attended in the summer of 2020; if it may be helpful, feel free to read it here.
We’ve decided an excellent prayer to apply this project to is Psalm 114: a celebratory song of praise for God that has a well-known, central call-and-response section.
To participate, see the instructions below to learn how to record, format, and submit your audio/video recording. Pesach is right around the corner, so we aim to incorporate the final compilation of everyone’s recordings in KI’s virtual service(s). Although it may seem daunting at first glance, the process of recording is actually quite straightforward, and we really hope you will participate!
You can find the instructions for how to participate at this link.
**The KI Hallel Collaboration project has once again extended its deadline until the end of April (Lag B’Omer).
